With the American College & University Presidents Climate Commitment taking steps towards achieving climate neutrality, the higher education community is staged to play an active role in affecting change towards a more sustainable future. Students, staff, and faculty alike have the power to implement new initiatives on their campus.

Based on research with colleges and universities, this session will present eight common barriers that institutions face when investing in energy efficiency for campus buildings through green construction and renovations. Solutions will be suggested for how to work through each of these barriers. The session presenter, Sally DeLeon, has been involved in sustainability in higher education as a student advocate and now as a research fellow at the Rocky Mountain Institute working to accelerate campus climate-change initiatives.
