Perspective from a Leadership Team Member

As a member of the Board of Trustees, I arrived in St. Louis March 6 to meet with incoming and returning members of the board. Our time together was well spent—reviewing the objectives and goals included in the Association's current strategic plan and addressing additional topics of interest. These included the recent regional audit, Association research efforts, the continued growth and management of the Education and Research Fund, and the upcoming search for a new executive director. In addition to our meetings, the early arrival of the board allowed the group the opportunity to interact with other members of the Leadership Team. Our conversations resulted in a deeper understanding and appreciation of the work that is being done by volunteers at multiple levels within ACUI. Lastly, we were able to support the efforts of the Conference Program Team as they put the final touches on the details for the annual conference and prepared to welcome more than 1,100 delegates and exhibitors.

In many ways, ACUI is my second family. The relationships I have established during my more than 20 years of involvement with the Association have provided me with a valued network of friends and colleagues who I am able to learn from and enjoy spending time with each year.

I look forward to seeing the conference through the eyes of our newcomers/first-time attendees (more than 290 of them to be exact). With 10 blocks of educational sessions, three keynote speakers, new featured speaker formats, and a variety of tours included in the conference schedule, attendees have a wealth of information and knowledge at their disposal. I look forward to discovering new perspectives related to the city of St. Louis as well as the union and student activities field. Delegates will also have the opportunity to learn more about the history of our Association and help kickoff the celebration of ACUI's 100th anniversary in 2014.

If you are interested in chatting more with members of the Board of Trustees, they will be available in a booth located immediately outside of the ACUI Expo on Monday and Tuesday. Please stop by to ask questions, offer feedback, or just say hello. With every introduction to a new friend, I gain a fresh perspective to our Association and the conference experience.
