How Do You Train and Develop Staff?

This time around, ACUI wanted to see how you train and develop student and professional staff.

This video, submitted by James Madison University, provides a quick training by a student-staff member on how to key up for a conference at the University Unions.

James Madison also submitted a video in which professional staff share their thoughts on the importance of student staff to the team.

This training video from Washington State University offers a look at how to fill out and submit a time card; after all, "if you'd like to get paid, you need to fill yours out."

Washington State University also submitted two other videos: one that explains green bikes available for rent outside the union, and another that gives a quick pep talk about how being out late is not an excuse to be late for work.

Fitchburg State University'svideo gives an overview of the customer service guidelines for the Hammond Campus Center.

Students at the Wilson Commons at University of Rochester develop this training video, used during employee training earlier this semester.

Need more resources on training and development?

One of ACUI's newer publications, Enhancing Student Learning through College Employment, delves deep into the topic of student staff and their role on campus.

The Bulletin is always a great resource for training articles, whether it be redesigning your program or helping skills learned in training transfer.

The Student Employee Supervisors Community of Practice document exchange offers examples of training schedules and orientation PowerPoints.

Earlier this week, ACUI released its video based on the new topic, back of house:

Remember, all you have to do is pick up a camera, shoot some footage, upload it to YouTube, and share it with us. Check out the ACUI website for full details.

Show Us Yours! is an ACUI video campaign that encourages you to show us what you do on your campus. Every two weeks, the campaign will focus on a new topic. Find out more here.
