Volunteerism in the Association

As the Volunteer Development Team continues to develop practices to enhance the volunteer experience for those giving of their time and talents to serve the Association, two new sets of guidelines and processes have been launched recently.

Feedback and Evaluation

Valuing ongoing communication about volunteering with the Association, a volunteer feedback and evaluation process has been created to provide opportunities for volunteers to share insights about their experience and for volunteer supervisors/advisors to share feedback about performance and expectations. Piloted with the Regional Leadership Teams based on recommendations from the regional audit, this process will now be implemented for all selected and elected volunteers over the next year.

Resignation and Removal

There are a number of situations that can arise in which a vacancy in a volunteer position occurs prior to the expiration of a member’s term. While each vacancy has a unique set of circumstances, procedures for handling the resignation and removal of volunteers have been created to help volunteer supervisors/advisors handle these instances consistently across all positions, assuming the best intentions of all parties involved.

Board of Trustees Election Timeline

The nomination and application process for positions on the ACUI Board of Trustees will begin next month. All members are encouraged to nominate qualified candidates and to consider applying for the opportunity to serve the Association in these important roles.

The application and election for the three at-large member positions, which carry a two-year commitment, and president-elect, which carries a three-year commitment (one as president-elect, one as president, and one as past president), will follow the below timeline.

  • Sept. 8 – Nominations and applications accepted
  • Oct. 3 – Orientation session for potential candidates
  • Oct. 10 – Application packets due
  • Oct. 22–Nov. 19 – Election occurs
  • Dec. 8 – Election results announced

Applications for the student member of the Board of Trustees also will be accepted, through a separate process, with a Dec. 5 deadline. This opportunity is a selected position with a one-year term beginning at the 2015 annual conference.
