RickeWhat is your primary responsibility?
I manage the events and conferences operations of the St. Paul Student Center. I recently started coordinating the outdoor space application and permitting process for the campus. I often identify with the section of my job description that lists “additional duties as assigned.”

What would your staff, colleagues, or students say about you?

I’m thorough, and not afraid to speak my mind or go against the grain when needed. Honestly, they’d probably also say I’m sassy.

What’s one innovation or project of which you’re proud to have helped implement?

Ironically, our current outdoor space application process is killing a lot of trees. I’m working toward a more efficient system that will hopefully include online submissions and approvals.

What’s the biggest lesson you’ve learned while working in the profession?

Expect the unexpected!

What is one phrase to live by or bit of advice you might have for future generations of union professionals?
Always keep your supervisor, colleagues, and students informed. Our director is a firm believer in “no surprises,” which has helped me to think of the big picture in my daily work.

Is there anything else you would like ACUI members to know about you?
I serve on the Region 10 Conference Program Team and am the educational program coordinator. I would love to hear from other members about their creative conference themes, engaging keynote speakers, or popular education session topics. I can be reached at
