Delegates answer challenge to support research and scholarships

In Anaheim, the ACUI Education and Research Fund issued a challenge to conference delegates to raise $3,000 for the Annual Fund. Contributions to the Annual Fund support the future of the college union and student activities profession through scholarships for new professionals and students and through research grants. Conference delegates exceeded this challenge and more!
Over 55 percent of ACUI conference delegates gave cash gifts to the ACUI Annual Fund. ACUI regional budgets contributed $2,700. Members of the international Leadership Team gave $3,000 before conference began, and $4,300 was given by annual conference delegates. An additional $2,000 in pledges to the Annual Fund and $1,900 in pledges to specific endowed funds were given during the annual conference.
After seeing these numbers, Region 1 contributed $1,500 to the ACUI Education and Research Fund, which will be added to an endowed scholarship so that it will be fully funded. Region 1’s generous gift, along with a $1,500 contribution made earlier this year by Region 15 to the Dick Scott Award, ensures that scholarships will be awarded at the 2010 Community Builders Awards Ceremony in New York City.

ACUI Education and Research Fund-sponsored events raised more than $14,000; this compares to $24,000 from the 2008 conference in New Orleans. The Silent Auction and Live Auction netted more than $12,000, while the donations for the FUNd Run/Walk garnered $2,000. This year’s participants enjoyed the beautiful Southern California weather as they dashed along the outskirts of the Disneyland Resort. Points in the Battle of the Regions competition were awarded to the each competitor. The regional Coin Wars competition lasted throughout the conference, and estimates are that at least $700 was raised through this activity.
Thank you to everyone who contributed to the success of these events; watch for future updates from the ACUI Education and Research Fund about award endowments, scholarship opportunities, and research grants.
