IPDS Community Service

Core Competencies: Leadership, Marketing, Planning, Student Learning
June 26 – June 30, 2010
Indiana Memorial Union, Bloomington, Ind.

This optional community service activity will be held the afternoon IPDS begins. It will be a great way to get to know some of the other seminar participants while benefiting the Indiana University and Bloomington community through a program that might later be replicated on other campuses.

Hoosier to Hoosier is a reuse program coordinated through the IU Office of Sustainability, which allows students to donate reusable items, which will then be made available inexpensively to local residents in need. The program aims to:

  1. Reduce waste and minimize landfill use
  2. Provide useful goods to people who need them
  3. Create a community consciousness about minimizing waste.

Items collected from the residence halls and drop-off locations include clothes, kitchen items, small appliances, toys, books, games, furniture, electronics, housewares, exercise equipment, office supplies, and general household items. IPDS participants will sort items collected, clean them, test electronics, and fold clothes.

The $15 participation cost is for lunch.
