This online learning event will address the importance of having clear communication plans and procedures in place to complement other operational aspects of emergency plans. The focus will be on communication do’s and don’ts during small emergencies and first-responder scenarios. This skill could apply in various settings that affect facilities (e.g., power outages, fires, floods, etc.). Attention also will be paid to how departmental communication plans fit into a larger university plan.

Participants also will receive templates and checklists they can use on campus to draft communication plans in preparation for the unexpected.

This program is ideal for:

  • Senior-level staff charged with ensuring plans are in place
  • Facilities and operational professionals tasked with executing plans during emergencies
  • Marketing professionals with public relations responsibilities who may or may not work in the union
  • Others who need to create departmental emergency preparedness/crisis communication plans that integrate into campus-wide plans
