From the Conference Chair

The 2017 Conference Program Team is excited to welcome you to the beautiful and historic city of Philadelphia and the 97th annual conference of the Association of College Unions International! A robust schedule has been created to allow you to maximize your experience and enjoy the sights, sounds, and culture of our host city.

In addition to more than 100 individual educational sessions, delegates will have the opportunity to learn and engage during daily general sessions that will feature renowned keynote speakers and panelists who will share their personal journeys as visionaries, innovators, and community builders. Flash and poster sessions are also included and provide additional formats for research and information to be shared. Preconference and extended learning offerings and specialized tracks will address current trends and best practices in the college union and student activities field and create environments for professional development, networking, and mentoring.

Take time to interact with our corporate partners in the Expo Hall and check out the latest in furniture and equipment, software and media platforms, programming resources, food service options, and facilities planning and design with more than 80 exhibitors. You can even schedule an exclusive appointment with one of our valued ACUI Procure partners!

Visit the Marketplace throughout the conference to peruse Silent Auction items or make a donation to the Education and Research Fund, get information on local restaurants and attractions at the Conference Concierge, or update your ACUI account with Member Services. The Career Center provides a multitude of resources for employers and candidates, including professional business portraits, mock interviews and resume critiques, and mailboxes to exchange information related to potential positions.

Need a fitness/wellness break? Attend a yoga session or spend time in the meditation lounge to reflect and revive. Participate in the FUNd Run/Walk and see downtown Philly in a new way. Take advantage of the hotel fitness center and swimming pool.

Service, entertainment, and social programs throughout the conference are a great way to make new friends and reconnect with valued colleagues. Donate soda tabs or shoes at the conference to benefit local agencies. Participate or cheer on others during Battle of the Regions programs, create a masterpiece that you can bring home as a souvenir, and get in a Philly state of mind!

Finally, don’t miss your chance to explore one of the most memorable cities in the world! While organized tours will take delegates to neighboring campuses and outstanding venues, you will also have time during the conference to sightsee on your own. Independence Hall, the Liberty Bell, the Constitution Center, and other historic sites are within steps of our hotel. Philadelphia has a rich community of museums and cultural centers, including the Institute of Art, made famous in the movie “Rocky.” And no visit would be complete without sampling local iconic foods such as cheesesteaks, soft pretzels, and water ice and sodas.

Ultimately, we hope that you are able to make the most of your time and return to your home institution with a renewed sense of spirit and purpose as well as the information, tools, and resources that allow you to impact your campus community!
