Re-envisioning Community: Managing a Student Center and Fitness Center – University of Illinois–Chicago
Tuesday, March 1, 12:45–3:15 p.m.

This tour will depart from the Conference Concierge, Level 5. We will depart immediately after the James Fowler keynote. Upon arrival at University of Illinois–Chicago, registrants will be broken up into two smaller groups. They will tour the Student Recreation Facility and the Student Center East with Booker Suggs, interim executive director.

Designed for both those who seek to refresh existing facilities as well as those who manage fitness centers, the tour will visit the University of Illinois–Chicago’s (UIC) Student Center East and Student Recreation Facility.

UIC Student Centers East is one of two unions on the urban campus of the University of Illinois–Chicago campus, offering meeting and ballroom space, student services, student organization office space, and commuter student services. Built in 2006 with student fee funds, the Student Recreation Facility has 18,000-square-feet of fitness equipment, an aquatics center (including a lazy river), fitness classes, a climbing wall, and much more. Participants will learn how the staff of UIC Student Centers manage the five facilities of the UIC Student Centers to promote community and student success.
